Community Based Abstinence Education also known as SASY (Self-Esteem, Abstinence & Success for Youth) is a federally funded abstinence education grant. The purpose of the Abstinence Education Project is to teach youth the social, psychological and health gains to be realized by abstaining from out of wedlock sexual activity and to abstain from related and equally harmful behaviors such as alcohol, drug and tobacco use. The SASY Project is part of a national effort to reduce unintended teenage pregnancies and the incidence of sexually transmitted infections among adolescents. The SASY Project has abstinence programs in five counties namely, Greenbrier, Fayette, Summers, Nicholas, and Pocahontas.
